How long can I keep an opened bag of PetFoodie (from the freezer)?

If you have opened a frozen bag of PetFoodie, but have some leftovers, just store the remainder of the bag in the fridge. Always follow the specific instructions on the packaging. When using an opened bag, always check that the meat does not smell unpleasant or is discoloured before giving it to your dog.

If you don’t expect to use the leftover food quickly, consider measuring it out into portions and freezing it. Frozen products can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. Remember to not refreeze defrosted PetFoodie products.

How do I defrost PetFoodie’s frozen products?

Defrosting PetFoodie’s frozen products can be done in several ways:

In the fridge
This method takes more time but gives the best results. Place the package in a container and then place the container in the refrigerator. Smaller pieces of meat will usually defrost within 24 hours.

In cold water
For a faster method, you can place the sealed package in a container with cold water. The water should be changed every 30 minutes. Small pieces of meat can be defrosted within two hours. Larger pieces may take several hours.

>
Is PetFoodie suitable for dogs/cats sensitive to certain grains or gluten?

Yes, PetFoodie products are suitable for dogs and cats on a gluten-free diet. Some of our products contain rice, however, this rice is gluten-free and hypoallergenic and can therefore be fed to them no problem.

>
Can I give PetFoodie to my dog or cat while still frozen?

Yes, you can, it is not dangerous. However, food that has not been defrosted has less odour and is therefore less appealing.

>
Why does fresh meat produce smaller stools than chunks?

Fresh meat contains less fiber and more moisture than dry food, which means that the stools will be smaller.

>
Why is it better to defrost frozen PetFoodie in the fridge?

This method takes some time but is the best way to prevent bacteria from forming. When you defrost PetFoodie outside of the fridge, the outside of the meat will rise above 8 degrees celcius at some point, while it is still frozen inside. Above 8 degrees celcius, an ideal situation arises for bacteria to develop. In the fridge, the outside will always remain below 8 degrees celcius, which reduces the chance of bacteria multiplying.

>
Why is my PetFoodie product not always the same colour?

PetFoodie is a natural product, therefore, there can be a difference in the colour of the meat between one cow and another. Our products containing tripe can also exhibit different colours due to the diet of the cow. Tripe often has a somewhat greenish colour when the cow is out in the fields feeding on grass. When a cow is kept in a barn, they’re often fed with silage grass and dry feed, this gives the tripe a lighter colour.

In what ways is PetFoodie committed to sustainability?

PetFoodie is committed to sustainability in several ways:

  • Almost all our packaging is made of monoplastic. Monoplastic consists of just one material instead of a mix. This makes it easier to sort and recycle into new, high-quality plastic. Put the plastic packaging in the right bin or bag. This way, you help to recycle as much plastic as possible.
  • PetFoodie is made from high-quality residual streams from meat production for human consumption. By using these flows, no animals are specially slaughtered for PetFoodie and these residual flows find a useful destination.
  • Hygiene is very important in the production of dog food. That is why the production area is thoroughly cleaned with hot water every day. This cleaning water is heated with the residual heat from freezing the dog food.
  • Leakage of old-fashioned (synthetic) refrigerants from freezing equipment can have a strong greenhouse effect. The freezing and storage freezer for PetFoodie products uses CO² as an environmentally friendly refrigerant.

This symbol means that we contribute to the costs of the “Green Point” waste separation and recycling system. You can put this packaging in the plastic waste to make it recyclable into new, high-quality plastic.

The Triman logo is a French labeling system to inform consumers about the correct disposal of products and packaging. It is a visual indication that the product and packaging must be disposed of separately to enable effective recycling into new, high-quality plastic.
